Pregnancy Health Issues -Month 4

Last updated On August 2nd, 2020

The second trimester of pregnancy is relatively smooth and comfortable compared to the first and third trimesters. The discomforts like morning sickness, nausea, and mood swings come to an end except in very few women. Starting this month your baby starts to get active and by the end of this month, you may even notice the movements. However, they will be more pronounced and known by the middle of the fifth month. Not many health issues are noticed in this month. This month can be said as a month of relief and joy. Here are some of the minor health issues noticed in the fourth month of the pregnancy.

Dark pigmentation

Darkening of the entire skin or only at certain portion that is visible as dark patches is observed in few women during pregnancy. People with dark skin are at high risk of developing pigmentation problems compared to those with a lighter skin. The dark patches are visible in specific regions like the upper lip, forehead, nose, cheekbones, neck, and other regions that are increasingly exposed to sunrays.

Dark pigmentation can be controlled by reducing exposure to sunrays. Apply sunscreen lotion whenever you go out in sun. Avoid using cosmetics that irritate the skin. The pigmentation reduces gradually after pregnancy. If the pigmentation is bad, consider visiting a dermatologist to rule out any medical conditions such as skin cancer.

Some of the home remedies that reduce pigmentation are ripe papaya pulp, tomato or cucumber juice mixed with milk, almonds and honey paste, avocado paste, orange peel powder mixed with milk, and lemon. Regular application of any of the listed paste gives good results within a short period of time.

Drop in sugar levels

Because of the excess work your body is involved in growing the fetus and preparing the body for future months of pregnancy, labor and lactation you will feel weak due to drop in sugar levels. Fatigue can be controlled by taking sufficient rest. However, compared to the first trimester you will feel energetic as you are free from all the discomforts.

Take the nutritious diet and sufficient fluids periodically to keep fatigue under control. Consider taking dry fruits to meet the demands of protein. Sweet potatoes help you meet the extra energy demands and provide sufficient amounts of Vitamin B that helps control fatigue.

Nasal congestion

To maintain increased blood supply, blood vessels of your body enlarge. The delicate blood vessels of the nose also enlarge giving you feeling of nasal congestion. This is often harmless. Very rarely you may notice nose bleeds. Consult the physician if the nasal congestion or nose bleeds are severe. Have a tissue all the time to prevent embarrassing situations as may have frequent sneezing.

Indulge yourself in the joy of pregnancy as this is the month of pregnancy free of discomforts. Shop for maternity clothing as you will soon need them as the tummy size increases. Have a happy pregnancy ahead.
