Baby Development Week 52

Last updated On August 2nd, 2020

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY to your little darling. This is just the beginning of many more fabulous birthdays to come.

CONGRATULATIONS to you for completing an year of motherhood successfully. Though the going was tough and you came across a number of challenges, surely the year gone by has presented you with a lot of memories that you will cherish for a lifetime. Hope you have got some of these clicked and taped on cameras and CDs to watch them later.

It is now time to give some serious thought to start weaning your baby from breast milk and introducing cow’s milk in her diet. Of course, you may want to consult the paediatrician before going all the way. Remember, it is not going to wean the little one. So, you may have to alter between the breast milk and cow’s milk to make the change more gradual. With patience and perseverance, you will soon be able to wean the baby.

Though a lot of mothers do breastfeed their babies even after they have turned one, it has been seen that the later you start to wean the baby the more difficult it becomes to get this done. So, this is just the right time to do it.

By now your munchkin may have sprouted a few teeth. Thus, it would be a good idea to introduce textures into her daily food. Of course, this too has to be done with care as your darling is used to eating mashed and smooth food. So, she may try to reject the texture. What you need to do is feed her the normal food and slip in a mouthful of the textured meal, every now and then. This will get the baby accustomed to newer textures and get her used to eating all sorts of food items.

You may see that your little one is sometimes too fussy about eating. In such scenarios, don’t force the baby to eat. She will definitely eat when she feels hungry. Also, if you slip in a mid time snack like juice or mashed fruit in between meals, there are chances that your baby may reject the meal at her meal time. So, wait for some time and try again.

Now that your munchkin has turned one, it is time to give some thought to her toys too. She will now be learning quickly and toys that stimulate her brain would develop her cognitive skills in a much better way.
