Baby Development Week 4

Last updated On August 2nd, 2020

When compared to week 1 and 2, you will see lot of significant changes in her growth and development. Your baby may sleep a little longer at a single strength, but no longer than 3 to 4 hours

  • Feed her different flavors and watch the reactions!
  • Place a pinch of salt on the tip of the tongue!
  • Feed the little one every 3 to 4 hours once, fully.
  • Give her tummy time every day. Some babies will just love it.
  • Can you identify the difference in quantity of feed? Watch for it.
  • Come and stand near the baby when she is hungry, don’t let her catch you. She will try to lift the body and grasp you.
  • Touch the baby in sleep. She will recognize your touch and smell. (Senses are developing)
  • Full hearing is developed, they can differentiate the voices. She becomes an expert in hearing, sensing, smelling and tasting.
  • Play a song or music that your baby is familiar with. She will respond immediately with joy.
  • Talk to someone, and watch the reaction of the baby. They will try to interrupt and grab your attention.
  • Call her from a place she cannot see you (call her from behind her, from next room, etc) she will move her head and search for you.
  • Ask someone to call your name, the baby will look at you. (There are few stubborn kids who even at 10 years say, her name is MOM).
  • Play hide and seek, just by covering your face with a cloth and open it. The little one will giggle.
  • Cover your face with palms and go near baby (your face should be reachable) she will try to move her hands and open the hands.
  • Play another game! Try to open the fists. It can be a very entertaining activity. The tiny hands hold treasure. They always keep the fist tightly closed.
  • Place her tiny things she can hold in her palms. She may hold it or drop it, but the fists remain close.
  • Try to introduce formula feed if your breast milk supply is low.

So, from the face of it by the end of week 4, your baby is all into playful mode, along with the regular eat, cry and sleep!

By the end of one month, let’s see how your baby grown.

  • Grow taller by 1 to 2 inches
  • Increase in weight by about 2 pounds or more
  • 4 to 6 wet diapers a day
  • Stools – 2 or 3 times a day
  • Be active, identify voices, differentiate people, stare at bright objects
  • Developed reflex, try to tilt head, move arms and legs

Don’t compare these milestones of first month baby development with premature baby.
