Pregnancy Checklist for Month 6

Last updated On August 2nd, 2020

You are into the final leg of your second trimester. Now your morning sickness might have finally eased out, which is surely good news.

However, you still have a few more months to go before you welcome your little darling.

So, keep up the spirits and make sure that you are doing everything right, be it visiting your doctor, eating a healthy diet or exercising regularly.

Here is a 6 month pregnant checklist that will help you through this month.

Gestational Diabetes Test

Most doctors recommend a glucose challenge test for the expectant mother to ensure that you can tolerate glucose. In case, the results are normal, you really don’t have anything to worry about.

However, some mothers test positive for gestational diabetes. This is to be taken seriously as the babies of such mothers tend to grow faster than the natural cases.

Most women can usually keep their sugar levels under check by altering their diet and continuing appropriate exercises.

But, if the sugar levels are too high, the doctor may prescribe medication like oral pills or insulin injections.

Take a Hospital Tour

Though you are not due for a few more months, it would be a good idea to check out the hospital where you plan to deliver your baby.

A flying visit would be ideal as this would give you a clear idea of the hygiene and cleanliness of the hospital. You may also want to interact with the staff to ensure that they are friendly and helpful.

In case, you are not convinced with the whole scenario or a part of it, there is ample time to choose another hospital.

Banking the Cord Blood

Research has proved that preserving the blood in the umbilical cord of the baby can be a life saver for the child during dire situations.

So, if you want to preserve the blood, now is a good time to talk to your doctor about it to collect all the information related to it like what to expect, the procedure and the costs.

Plan a Support Team

There is no denying the fact that once the baby arrives, you will have your hands full.

But, in the initial days, you may need some help to take care of the baby or to help out with other kids.

Now, when you are six months pregnant, you can plan out how you want to go about it.

You can ask your parents or siblings to help you out. In case, they can’t help, this would leave you with enough time to hire a help or look out for nannies and cooks.

Research Pediatricians

Babies are extremely fragile and sensitive and can fall ill at the drop of a hat. They also need to be vaccinated at regular intervals.

Thus, it is a good idea that you start researching on the best pediatricians in your area. You can ask your family and friends for reference.

Checking out the internet and reading the reviews would also help you to find a good doctor. Procrastinating this is not a good idea as this is a very crucial task.

These are some of the important things that you need to get done during the 6th month of pregnancy.
